Different Methods To Treat Condyloma

Genital warts can be treated and so can condyloma. There are two main procedures for the treatment. First involves usage of medications while the second is surgery. Unfortunately, no treatment is hundred percent effective and there is a good chance that the problem may arise again in the future wherein, the same process would have to be followed again. The virus that causes this disease is known as Human Papilloma (HPV) which is not eliminated from the body when the warts are removed.

Which treatment method to choose, varies from one patient to another. Depending upon the severity of the problem, whether it has occurred before and the practices undertaken by the patient, the doctor may suggest the best possible mode. It is always advisable to visit a qualified professional doctor who can help solve the matter instead of trying to solve it on your own and further aggravating it.

Treatments

As already mentioned, there are two main forms of condyloma treatments:

Medicinal Treatments: This method involves using of creams, lotions and other liquids which can be applied on the warts either by the patient or the medical staff present at the hospital. These need to be applied on a regular basis several times before the warts would start to show signs of diminishing.

a) Podophylox: This is a medicine that can be applied on the warts by the patient himself from the comfort of his/ her home. The process includes applying the solution of a cotton swab and placing it on the infected area. It needs to be applied 2 - 3 times a day for half a week. After that, it needs to be left for the next couple of days to heal before repeating the process again. Generally, 4 cycles are enough to cure condyloma. This medication is not used on pregnant woman due to the high side effects it may cause to them.

b) Interferon: This medicine is meant to cause an immune response. By injecting this medicine into the patient's body, the immune system gets a boost which leads to the body curing the warts internally. Unfortunately, there are a number of side effects associated with this medication which include fatigue, pain and lack of appetite. For some doctors, this is the last resort which is only followed by surgery.

Surgical Treatments: Usually the last resort by the doctors when condyloma cannot be treated by use of medicinal procedures, this includes methods that destroy the warts using external means. There are some treatments that can be done sitting in the office of the doctor while the others require an operation theater. The different processes include:

a) Cryotherapy: This process uses chemicals that are meant to freeze the warts to stop their spread. It is a simple process which requires no anesthesia and can be conducted while sitting in the office. It has its set of side effects including itching, swelling and ulceration. Fortunately, this method can be used on pregnant woman. Although, this again is a method that is not used commonly on first timers.
